Care friends, dear friends,

in our National Assembly of 17 November we discussed and agreed on the need to develop the democratic experience of ecologists after the birth of the Democratic Party. Our goal - as we have repeatedly pointed out - is not simply to make visible the presence in the Democratic Party a clear and consistent position environmentalist, but to get that all the Democratic Party puts the issues of environment, sustainable development and commitment to stop climate change and radical reform of the energy systems at the center of its policy, as repeatedly stated by the Secretary Walter Veltroni and how it is essential for a force born of the ambition to put the pace of reform problems and challenges of the twenty-first century.

The meeting of November 17 ended with the decision to create a new association of ecologists all Democrats. An association that arise from policy experiences and associations that already exist, but we also expand to many new energies that have emerged in the primaries and in the constituent phase of the PD. Uno strumento che contribuisca a dare più forza e credibilità all'ambientalismo, e che favorisca il rapporto e la sintonia tra il Pd e quanti nella società - associazioni, gruppi organizzati, singoli cittadini - si riconoscono nell'idea che oggi più che mai l'ambiente sia un ingrediente decisivo della stessa nozione di progresso.

Abbiamo previsto che il 16 febbraio 2008, terzo anniversario dell'entrata in vigore del Protocollo di Kyoto, prenda il via, con una grande assemblea nazionale, la costruzione della associazione degli ecologisti democratici. Dovremo naturalmente definire in modo puntuale tempi e modalità della successiva "fase costituente" dell'associazione, ma intanto è importante che nel mese di gennaio si svolgano in ogni regione incontri preparatori, partendo dall'esperienza dei forum già costituiti nei mesi scorsi in molte città. La presenza nel Pd di ambientalisti provenienti da storie diverse richiede una attenta capacità di valorizzare tutte le esperienze: la collegialità è condizione essenziale per promuovere quella ampia partecipazione che deve caratterizzare il nostro progetto.

La preparazione dell'appuntamento del 16 febbraio si intreccia, inoltre, con la fase costituente del Pd.
